Meet Dr. Maame-Mensima Horne

Welcome to Heart Body Glow Naturopathic. I am Dr. Maame-Mensima Horne. My mission is support you on your  journey to cultivate your health and vitality by providing a heart-centered approach to mind, body and spirit healing.

I began my journey teaching yoga and mindfulness to children in New York City after school programs. After deepening my practice and becoming certified to teach adults, I was inspired to study medicine.

After completing four rigorous years of medical training in naturopathic medicine and completing two licensing exams, I created Heart Body Glow Naturopathic to merge my passions for medicine, spirituality, and healing.

My Journey

In 2014, I traveled internationally and experienced first hand a Chikkungunya outbreak which resulted in your normal flu symptoms with tremendous joint pain. I relied on natural medicine and yoga to support my health because there was not treatment beyond pain relievers and movement.

Upon returning to the US, I began having new symptoms which I later learned were due to neuroinflammation, vitamin deficiencies and an undiagnosed autoimmune condition that the mosquito-borne virus and the stress of traveling exacerbated. My experience navigating the conventional health system to find answers lead to frustrations that became my fuel to become a doctor who would go beyond the protocols and algorithms to rebuild health.

In 2016, I enrolled at University of North Florida where I completed the pre-requisites for medical school. While observing a pediatric radiation oncologist, I attended a lunch conference where a naturopathic doctor presented on utilizing herbal medicine to support cancer treatments. I was in awe and my path became clear.

My passion as a Doctor and healer

I believe in the body’s innate ability to heal. There is no magic pill that will change your health although medications may help alleviate your symptoms. True healing takes time and is an individual process. I guide and support patients along the way as they work to rebuild, restore and maintain their health.

I integrate mind body medicine, clinical hypnotherapy, homeopathy and naturopathic medicine to treat complex health cases and provide holistic mental health care. I use clinical hypnotherapy to support patients to identify the root cause of their diagnosis from a mental emotional and spiritual perspective and as a tool to treat trauma and provide corrective experiences to heal the unseen wounds.

Why do patients choose to work with me:

  • Many of my patients choose to work with me because they recognize there is a deeper concern beyond the physical symptoms or the diagnosis they are given.
  •  They have tried many treatments and they are still struggling. They may have had some improvement but they are not truly better.
  • Some patients are taking a lot of medications that are causing more side effects that require more medications. They want less invasive interventions to prevent more medications.
  •  They may want a holistic approach to their health care and desire the least invasive interventions possible.

Conditions I work with include: infertility, women’s health and postpartum, thyroid disorders,  autoimmune disorders, autism, narcolepsy, seizures, mental health conditions, suicidal ideation, digestive disorders, and cancer.

You are not your diagnosis. Nor do you have to stay stuck.

Understanding the delicate connection between the mental, emotional, spiritual and physical health has been my motivation to support patients to alleviate suffering and pain.  In Naturopathic Medicine, one of our principles is to identify and treat the root cause of disease in order to support the body’s intrinsic ability to re-establish health. Creating a healing space to uncover how stress, trauma and emotions can affect health and wellbeing has propelled me to a heart-centered, holistic approach to treating complex health conditions and mental health.
