These principles are the guiding light of Heart Body Glow Naturopathic and the foundation on which the therapeutic order is built. As a naturopathic doctor, Dr. Maame-Mensima Horne approaches healing using the gentlest therapies that can affect changes to health. She works toward more stimulating and invasive approaches as they are indicated. She utilizes the Naturopathic Therapeutic Order to design individualized treatments to identify and remove obstacles to health, stimulate the Vis medicatrix naturae or the vital life force residing within all living beings and to address the root cause of diseases for each patient. I work in a collaborative manner towards health and well-being

The use of plants in medicine has been used for thousands of years and was known to be the original medicine drugs. Clinically, Dr. Maame-Mensima utilizes her knowledge to restore and support the body’s vitality and also to treat diseases. Herbal infusions, tinctures, capsules, flower essences and essential oils are some of the forms.

Homeopathy

Homeopathy is a holistic medicine that uses specially prepared, highly diluted substances that stimulates the body’s own healing capacity. This modality takes into consideration the totality of symptoms to specially pair a remedy for the current needs of the patient offering mind, body and spirit healing.

Nutritional Counseling and Lifestyle Medicine

The Heart Body Glow Naturopathic approach includes supporting the individual genetic make-up of patients to create a lifestyle of health and well-being. This includes therapeutic use of food, vitamins and minerals, incorporating movement and activity into one’s daily life, and addressing environmental exposures to toxins and pollutants that may contribute to illness. Physical medicine is an integral component of naturopathic medicine to address the body’s musculoskeletal issues which may be exacerbated by lifestyle concerns. Naturopathic Medicine Therapeutic Order

To Establish the conditions for health Naturopathic Doctors first identify the causes of disease and then remove the obstacles to healing. To restore health is to bring address imbalances before they become they lead to degeneration and permanent disease states.

Disturbances to the determinants of health can include pathogens like bacteria or viruses, environmental toxins, nutritional deficiency, malabsorption, mental emotional stress, isolation, genetic factors, lack of sleep, dehydration, lack of sunlight or fresh air, etc. The goal is to identify to make sustainable interventions to optimize health and well-being.

The body were created to heal. When there is an infection, a fever is the result because by increasing the body’s internal temperature to slow down the replication of pathogens and activate its defense system. When overheating, the body sweats to cool downs. When cold, the body shivers to increase the heat within the body. Naturopathic doctors are trained to work with these natural reactions and bring them back into balance to support the body’s self-healing ability.

Supporting weakened/damaged systems helps the encourage homeostasis. Botanical medicine, homeopathy, Mind Body Medicine, nutritional counseling, hydrotherapy, and  lifestyle medicine are modalities uses to support weakened systems or damaged organs. For example, supporting the nervous system and the liver detoxification pathway of a patient with heavy metal exposure.

Pharmaceutical therapies have a place in treatment. Dr. Maame-Mensima prefers to specialize in using natural therapeutics and defers most pharmaceutical interventions to Allopathic Doctors. She works with patients who depend on pharmaceutical interventions to decrease side effects and utilize lower doses of medications as needed.

Naturopathic doctors are trained to work with the immune system and the body’s natural healing. There are times when surgery or suppressing the body’s natural healing responses may benefit the patient in the in order to regain health. For example, a patient undergoing chemotherapy, radiation therapy, and/or surgical removal of a tumor may benefit from the more invasive and immunosuppressive therapies. As a Naturopathic doctor there are supportive therapies during cancer treatment to reduce side effects, overcome anxiety, and to strengthen the immune system to prevent future cancer.
