About Maame-Mensima

My Journey

I’ve always aspired to being a healer and eventually the Universe led my path. In 2011, I started having mystical experiences which were challenging for me to process and eventually I turned to conventional medicine for support. I quickly realized that there had to be another way to support people like me, empaths and highly sensitive people and this led me to naturopathic medicine.

During my first year of naturopathic medical school, I was listening to a podcast, the Vital Conversations discussing how the doctors supported their patients to overcome obstacles to cure. In Naturopathic Medicine, one of our principles is to get to the root cause of the disease so that curative measures can be established when possible. The doctors noticed some patients had unconscious blocks preventing them from healing so they referred patients to traditional healer and shamans.

Shortly after, I experienced a tragic event where someone I deeply cared about committed suicide leaving me grieving and heartbroken. As future doctor, I was reminded of the quote “physician heal thyself”. I began training in clinical hypnotherapy and energy healing simultaneously.

Through these trainings, I found healing and clarity and the desire to support my clients in identifying obstacles to their well-being whether physical, emotional, mental, or spiritual. Heart Body Glow evolved from my experience with my heart-centered teachers and mentors who taught me to focus on the light within each person.

Studying Traditional Chinese Medicine philosophy helped me see that the heart is the house of Shen (the Soul or Spirit). By healing the heart and spirit, one can heal the body. I am also inspired by the Dharmic teachings found in Yoga philosophy and Buddhism. My aspiration is to meet each person where they are with unconditional love, compassion and positive regard.

Training and Specialization

A graduate of the University of Florida, I have a B.A. in Political Science and minors in African Studies and Economics. I also studied biomedical sciences at the University of North Florida. I earned my hypnotherapy certification from  The Wellness Institute where I also have completed a two-year advanced clinical internship. Additionally, I completed my massage therapy certification at the Florida School of Massage and have completed additional studies in Asian bodywork, and physiotherapeutics.

I utilize bodywork, Reiki, meditation, Heart-Centered Breathwork, Transpersonal Life Coaching techniques, yoga and movement inspired by dances from Africa and the African Diaspora. My intuitive and energetic healing practices were introduced to me throughout my childhood and are refined through my trainings with Energy Medicine and Yoga Practitioners. I am an Usai Shiki Ryoho Reiki Master who studies with Alida Rees. I have studied Integrative Energetics with David Price Francis and Pranic Healing with Dr. Rhonda Steinke, ND. I completed my yoga trainings with Healing Emphasis Yoga, The Urban Yoga Foundation, Sacred Sound Yoga and the Christina Phipps Foundation.

My Story

I grew up in a multicultural family in Florida and Indiana where two worlds united in me. I was exposed to different spiritual teachings from Ghana, the African Diaspora, Native American culture, Yoga philosophy, Christianity, and Buddhism. We moved around quite a bit and I got used to being different. I found love in performing Ghanaian cultural dances with my family and sharing our cultural practices within our community.

The complexity of being authentic and exploring identify is not unique to me. Through my practice and experience as a woman of color and a daughter of an immigrant, I hold space for people who have a desire to carve their own path and create a space where they belong.
